About Aseer
Abha is Aseer's capital and the easiest way in, but the region itself keeps unfolding well past the city limits. Aseer is a whole province of highland towns and terraced villages strung along the Sarawat mountains, most of them still barely known outside Saudi Arabia.
An hour from Abha, a cable car climbs to Al Habala, a village the Qahtan tribe built into a cliff face some four hundred years ago and reached only by rope until the 1990s. Two hours further north, Al Namas sits even higher than Abha itself, forested and cool, with a 250-year-old heritage museum and Mount Murir rising beside it. Just past Al Namas, Tanomah adds waterfalls and juniper forest to the same green, high-altitude world.
