About Jazan

Jazan doesn't look like the Saudi Arabia most people picture. It's the Kingdom's tropical corner, humid and green in places, closer to the Horn of Africa than to Riyadh, with a character shaped as much by the sea and the mountains as by the desert.

The Farasan Islands hold a marine sanctuary where whale sharks and dugongs pass close to shore, and a Pearl Merchants' Neighbourhood of coral-built houses left over from the pearling trade. Inland, the Fayfa Mountains rise into terraced coffee farms, stone staircases carved into slopes steep enough to earn the name Land of Hanging Gardens.

This is a first look at what a few days in Jazan could feel like. Tell us your dates and who's travelling, and we'll shape the rest around you.
